18h29 Talked with Matt, a really talented and graphic-happy artist, about how limitations can inspire greater creativity and innovation. It ties in really closely with some of the conversations that have been going on online, as well as here in person. Limitations are a huge influence in the creative world, and in some sense they facilitate circular progression. They force you to return to the same points over and over again, and as you drive deeper into them, you find new potential. More on that later. Matt is way into jets and has an upcoming show in this same gallery that will feature monumental paintings that play off their formal beauty. He provided the schematic of a concept TWA jet (above). |

15h19 FREE DOWNLOAD! I finally figured out how to get my demo typeface to work. I'm waiting for a serial number so I can use the full version of the font creation software. In the mean time, play around with this demo version, mess around with it, and send me back something interesting. The demo version puts very strict limits on the number of characters available (hint: use capital letters), and some of them are partially obscured by the software company's logo. It could lead to some really fun stuff. It's an OpenType font and should work cross-platform. |

12h02 I'm trying to learn (quickly) how to generate a typeface, and it's eating me alive. Below is a screen shot from an initial demo version. If I can get the demo to work a little better, I'll upload it for people to mess with. |

08h59 I was just approached by a student who could no longer contain her curiosity. She had been trying to figure out what was going on over the past couple days, and it apparently bothered her that she wasn't seeing dramatic additions or changes to the space. I explained to her what was going on and what I was working on, and she listened politely while sipping her breakfast. When I handed her a card with the exhibition web address, she crinkled her nose and handed it back. "I probably don't have time to look at it, but thanks. Good luck." Ouch. |
