The second definition of narcissism(from The American Heritage Dictionary via answers.com) is very interesting (I've bolded the part I find most interesting):
A psychological condition characterized by self-preoccupation, lack of empathy, and unconscious deficits in self-esteem.
Yeah, I read a similar definition just after having written the above comment. I was about to diagnose myself with a moderate case of narcissism, but then I wondered if I could truly be narcissistic if I was aware of my unconscious deficits in self-esteem. :)
I was wondering the same thing, but thought that definition still gave you a better chance considering the more obvious contradiction of hating yourself when you're narcissistic ;) Besides, I think it's possible to be unconsciously affected by thoughts even when you're conciously aware of them. It's easy to aknowledge the fallacies of the subconscious. It's not so easy to correct them.
